Objectives

  • Demonstrate the General Feasibility of Separation
  • Obtain Preliminary Information for Process Development and Optimization
  • Production of Small Reference Samples of about 1 KG

Americas VTA operates Laboratory units for Wiped Film and Short Path Distillation as well as Rectification of Product Mixtures. Along with the development of the rough process parameters, this provides visual control of the operation regarding flashing, decomposition, splashing, degassing, foaming, color and cold trap loading.

Available Laboratory Units:

  • Short Path Distillation Plant VKL 70
  • Wiped Film Distillation Plant VDL 70
  • Combination Package VKL/VDL 70
  • Wiped Film Evaporator Used as Reboiler for a Packed Rectification Column VDL 70 with C 30
  • Wide Variety of Wiper Systems
  • Different Evaporator Sizes
  • Complete Heating Units
  • Multi-Stage Laboratory Distillation Units
  • Sample Collecting Carousels with 6 Collecting Samples for Distillate and Residue

Design of Systems

  • Glass Components Manufactured in Corrosion Resistent Borosilicate Glass
  • Evaporator Jacket Temperatures up to 300OC
  • Available Pressures Down to .001 mbar (using Short Path Distillation)
  • Use of Standard Expandable Joints
  • Compact Setup and Easy Operation
  • Extensive Additional Options

Different Wiping Systems

  • Different Evaporator Sizes
  • Complete with Hot Oil Systems
  • Multi-Stage Laboratory Distillation Units
  • Sample Collecting Carousels with 6 Collecting Samples for Distillate and Residue

Wiped Film and Short Path Distillation

Our Units and Plants are used for Separation of Heat Sensitive Products.  The Basic Features for our Distillation Processes are:

  • High Turbulence in Wiped Film for High Mass and Heat Transfer
  • Short Residence Time for Low Thermal Stress of the Product
  • Small Film Thickness: No Hydrostatic Height
  • Distillation of High Viscosity Products by Specially Designed Blade Systems
  • Low Operating Pressures to .001 mbar to Decrease Boiling Temperature

New Horizontal Lab System

VTA presents its new horizontal agitated film evaporator in glass construction. This unit is 70 mm inside diameter and can be configured with a rigid evaporator rotor or a drying rotor. It can be operated in co-current or counter-current fashion. The construction is of high quality borosilicate glass, is fully jacketed and can be fitted with stainless steel internals as well as various high nickel alloys. This unit is ideal for development since it only requires small samples and the operator has a visual image of the process.
